  • A view of the green Yorkshire moors countryside looking down from a nearby hill to the top secret intelligence-gathering base of RAF Menwith Hill, near Harrogate, Yorkshire, England. One sees the surreal-looking white radomes in the shape of golf balls - each containing a satellite dish - that are dotted across the science-fiction landscape. Many of these are used for signals interception from communications satellites and are commonly thought to be part of ECHELON, a highly secretive world-wide signals intelligence and analysis network. Other parts of this notorious site are thought to be used by the Space Based Infrared System employed by the US National Missile Defence program. The base has attracted significant levels of protest from anti-nuclear and pacifist groups.

  • RAF Fylingdales is a British Royal Air Force station high on Snod Hill in the North York Moors, England. Before their demolition by Ministry of Defence contractors this early attack warning Cold War facility, consisted of three 40-metre-diameter 'golfballs' or geodesic domes (radomes) containing mechanically steered radar. They became a local tourist attraction and coach tours drove past the site listening to the interference on radios emitted by the radomes. They have since been replaced by the current tetrahedron ('pyramid') structure and is still a secret location. Its Motto is "Vigilamus" ("We are watching"). It is now a radar base and part of the United States-controlled Ballistic Missile Early Warning System (BMEWS).

Sir William Butlin conceived of its creation based on his experiences at a Canadian summer camp in his youth and by observation of the actions of other holiday accommodation providers, both in seaside resort lodging houses and in earlier smaller holiday campsThe camp began opened in 1936, when it quickly proved to be a success with a need for expansion. The camp included dining and recreation facilities, such as dance halls and sports fields. Over the past 75 years the camp has seen continuous use and development, in the mid-1980s and again in the late 1990s being subject to substantial investment and redevelopment. In the late 1990s the site was re-branded as a holiday resort, and remains open today as one of three remaining Butlins resorts.

  • An aerial landscape view of a railway network whose tracks and rails converge on a station in central London. Three trains filled with commuters all make their way into this unseen railway hub. The route curls away into the distance, slicing its way through the capital. London Rail is a directorate of Transport for London (TFL), involved in the relationship with the National Rail network within London, UK. It manages non-tube rail systems in London. Railways started to change the landscape of London itself, followed by its suburbs in the mid to late 19th century when streets and neighbourhoods were cut in half by the new infrastructure.

It was designed to receive television signals from Nepal's main TV station is Nepal Television (NTV) whose programmes are mostly serials from Pakistan and Hindi films. King Gyanendra imposed severe media restrictions after assuming direct control of the country the previous year. The scene is of new technology in the backdrop of a poor, third world country who freedoms of expression and experience of western democracy has been tested in recent years.

  • A fisherman from the Maldives sits making a call on his mobile cell phone on the bow of a dhoni boat which heads along on a calm Indian Ocean. After a hard day's fishing he gazes forward to open sea where an almost uninterrupted view of sea and horizon is seen beyond except for a small island is faintly in view. Even small remote atoll communites in the Maldives have strong phone signals and many also have good Wi-Fi connections. He and his crew have been catching Yellow Fin Tuna in the seas north of the capital Male in this Islamic Republic. Their catch is for export to the EU and in particular, the UK's supermarkets. There is no limit and no obvious destination, just infinity and the thought of tomorrow.

  • Brutalist concrete architecture of New Street Station Signal Box in Birmingham, United Kingdom. New Street Station has been at the centre of public attention in recent times, with its extensive redevelopment works in full swing. However, at the heart of it, and often overlooked, sits the Grade II listed signal box on Navigation Street, which houses the centre of all rail operations of the station. The corrugated concrete Brutalist structure may polarise public opinion, but is actually home of one of the city’s most vital and intense infrastructure systems, serving the busiest rail interchange in the UK. Brutalist architecture is a movement in architecture that flourished from the 1950s to the mid-1970s, descending from the modernist architectural movement of the early 20th century.

  • The unrecognisable driver of a number 38 red London bus which is passing between sunlight and shadow, gives a thumbs up signal to another road-user in the streets of Victoria. On the side of the vehicle's bodywork are the destinations the 38 route passes: Hackney, Dalston Junction, Angel, Piccadilly Circus and Victoria Station. The bus is a traditional design called a Routemaster which has been in service on the capital's roads since 1954 and is nowadays only seen on heritage routes. From any angle, the bus is easily recognisable as that classic British transport icon.

  • As blue light fades on a bitterly cold winter's evening, the barrier of an Austrian level-crossing has been lowered to stop traffic and allow a high-speed ICE-T train to continue on its route through, near Salzburg, Austria, Europe. OBB, the Austrian Federal Railways operate a network of 5,683 km makes them the by far largest railway-company in this country. Heavy snow has fallen in this region of the Alps and deposits have settled on the fences and the glowing red stop traffic light, signalling for motorists to halt at this dangerous road-crossing location. So fast is this mode of transport, it blurs past this cold, desolate spot where only one nearby house is next to the trackside.
