  • A detail of a green, wooden garden shed's domestic chemicals lined-up on the sill inside. We see through the window, slug pellets, weedkiller and stain remover - all household products that are dangerous to the young and so remain out of reach to small hands.

  • Standing in the corner of a brightly sun-lit window, a classical reproduction bust is seen in a hotel foyer in the modern town of Olympia, the birthplace of athletics and the Olympic ideal. Amid the woodland of ancient Olympia where for 1,100 continuous years, the ancients held their pagan festival of sport and debauchery. The modern games share many characteristics with its ancient counterpart. Corruption, politics and cheating interfered then as it does now and the 2004 Athens Olympiad echoed both what was great and horrid about the past.

  • A half-bricked up and painted Victorian terraced house window. With the main door to this old period home painted a vibrant green, one half of the window features the same colour while in the middle section, bricks have replaced a pane of glass, in the manner that Georgian property owners doid when faced by government window taxes - penalising those with glass window and a solitary beer can rests on the sill of the right window.

  • A businessman puts a foot up on the sill of a menswear shop called Hawkes & Curtis in the City of London. From behind, it looks as if he has only on leg, such is the moment and the perspective. The image is also slightly off the level and is a visual pun on the arrows in the road and on the building's wall that suggest the computer command to rotate the picture left.

  • An elderly lady widow resident of a tower block, enjoys the company of TV newsreader in her inner-city home. Watching the television news programme on which a black man of perhaps afro-Caribbean descent is presenting, the lady sits with a cup of tea, wearing pink slippers and surrounded by personal possessions that line the sill of her high-rise window, overlooking the Middlesex Estate in the City of London. She is alone apart from the on-screen presence of the male presenter empty of human contact or friendly neighbours. She lives alone in this inner city flat but she is looking after herself showing brushed hair, a lace top and lipstick. The world outside is a depressingly empty landscape of concrete walkways and garage doors, an inner-city environment devoid of human interaction or friendliness.

  • A satellite dish takes up the space of an Italian home's window. We look up at the series of windows of this old building in the centre of Bassano where it seems, evening entertainment is no longer a round-the-table with the family but the technology of accessing global media via the dish. Whereas flowers fill the sills of other windows, the dish occupies the space and removes the light.
