  • During a journey into America's hinterlands, days after the September 11th attacks in New York and Washington DC, an American flag has been sprayed with aerosol paint on a grassy knoll by a local garage owner near Sinking Spring, Pennsylvania. In outpourings of grief, anger and patriotic rhetoric, flags were flown as never before as America sought to express their emotions and a unity. • Prophetic street art in Hackney Wick in London, England, United Kingdom. Large scale letters reads: The Ship is Sinking. Street art in the East End of London is an ever changing visual enigma, as the artworks constantly change, as councils clean some walls or new works go up in place of others. While some consider this vandalism or graffiti, these artworks are very popular among local people and visitors alike, as a sense of poignancy remains in the work, many of which have subtle messages.

The young lady gazes skyward as the swing takes her on an upward trajectory, the sun sinking behind distant trees, a scene of splendid inner-peace and tranquillity, disturbed only by the creaking of the rope on the tree above that supports her as she rides. She is staying at this small camp site where tipis and yurts is the theme of this eco-friendly and carbon-neutral holiday.

All schools and much of Denmark including its borders were shut Monday March 16th by the Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen to prevent the corona virus from spreading beyond control. All school children had to stay at home if possible during the lock-down and many had not seen their friends through-out the 4 weeks it lasted. All teaching was done at home and via online services such as Google Meet and to many time was difficult to pass. Only year 0-5 are now allowed back in school and only under special measures. Classes are split in twos and across two rooms, everyone must wash hands rigorously when they leave and enter the class and the children must observe distance when possible. The children are put together in groups of no more than three and they are the only ones they get to work and play with. Break time has to be in designated areas only and only with class mates.

  • A baker presses his hands deep into a mixture of dough, to become Italian Ciabatta bread. As his fingers sink into the mixture, we get a sense of how thick and sticky the blend of flour and water plus secret ingredients have become. Pressing down into the dough, the man’s skin is of African or afro-Caribbean origin, clearly made out in the white of the mix, his white baker’s uniform’s sleeves also spattered with flour. Ciabatta (literally "carpet slipper") is an Italian white bread made with wheat flour and yeast. The loaf is somewhat elongated, broad and flattish. Its name is the Italian word for slipper. There are many variations of ciabatta. Ciabatta in its modern form was developed in 1982. Since the late 1990s it has been popular across Europe and in the United States, and is widely used as sandwich bread.

  • A pet spaniel jumps against a tree while barking at park tree squirrels. Leaping up at the tree trunk, the dog is excited enough to think it can catch or frighten these fast-moving creatures that occupy London's parks and public spaces in their thousands. Whereas the squirrel population was once brown, these have been superceded by the grey squirrel which continue to be a recreational sport for four-legged animals in Britain. The distant sun sinks low over 100 year-old ash trees in the background making this scene one of beauty in an otherwise urban location.

  • Lens flare from setting sun between layers of cloud over inner-city south London rooftops. As the sun sinks inn the winter sky, over the inner-city of Britain's capital, we see a variety of eras in the architecture of urban housing: From Edwardian period in the foreground to the tower blocks from the 60s in the distance. A warm glow of light flares from the camera lens to give an almost cosy feel to the landscape while giving a sense of raw cold on this April evening.

  • Beyond Chinese TV media images, a red sun sinks behind late cloud in the west, a glowing red sky illuminates Hong Kong's harbour, this scene is symbolic of the decline of empire, the transfer of sovereignty of Hong Kong from the United Kingdom to the Peoples Republic of China (PRC) two years after this picture was taken, often referred to as "The Handover" on June 30, 1997. Midnight of that day signified the end of British rule and the transfer of legal and financial authority back to China. From this famous ferry terminal that protrudes out into the busy waters of this colony’s harbour from the Kowloon side of the territory. Hong Kong was once known as 'fragrant harbour' (or Heung Keung) because of the smell of transported sandal wood in the days before China ceded its territory to the British for 155 years until the 1997 deadline.

  • A lone woman walks her pet dog while enjoying a setting sun over Edwardian pertiod homes fronting a public park. As the glow from the setting sun sinks below the rooftops and the treetops of 100 year old ash, the woman enjoys her moment of peace and tranquillity with her obedient dog alongside.

  • A life belt hangs on a cross-shaped post, all painted a vivid red as the sun sinks down below the horizon and beyond the historic Bamburgh Castle, in Northumberland, northern England. Lit with a strong off-camera flash we see the slightly blurred device, invented for saving lives at sea, with a ghostly corona around its form, against a fading blue sky. The rope dangles near the ground, around which the grasses of the dunes blow in a faint breeze. Only the foreground is lit by the flash and the distant castle building and shoreline. We see such equipment and imagine safety and rescue and also jeopardy and hazards at sea. Supplied for those taking risks and making stupid decisions makes these items essential on coastal areas.

  • "More than you can chew." A ten month-old infant uses new teeth to bite her mother's nose in the back garden of their Victorian south London terrace home. The mum winces in pain as the child sinks her new milk teeth into her skin but they enjoy a warm summer afternoon, playfully interacting with each other in a moment of parental love and harmony. The girl wears a short-sleeved t-shirt and has plump arms of baby fat, a healthy sign of a contented infant. This is from a documentary series of pictures about the first year of the photographer's first child Ella. Accompanied by personal reflections and references from various nursery rhymes, this work describes his wife Lynda's journey from expectant to actual motherhood and for Ella - from new-born to one year-old.

  • On a crowded spring day at the seaside, when families and holidaymakers, daytrippers and locals gather at England's coastal regions, a woman here is seen biting into a very soft cream cake. Covered with a chocolate topping, she sinks her mouth into its pastry and somehow manages not to let the cream ooze out over her clothes. Holding a serviette to catch drips, she looks elsewhere as behind, others stand or lean against the solid concrete sea defence wall at Scarborough, North Yorskhire.

  • The beautiful landscape of Loch Garry (Scottish Gaelic: Loch Garadhin) Glengarry is seen as a late sun sinks below the mountains of the Scottish Highlands, near Invergarry. In the foreground we see the foliage of trees of Glengarry Forest that hug the Loch (Lake) and the Western hills in the far distance are near Loch Quoich. Glinting off the near-still fresh water's surface, the pools of shadow and highlights of the sun reflect like a mirror while approaching rain clouds lie across the top on the image like a blanket of bad weather coming soon to this peaceful and unspoilt place. Glengarry is one of Scotland's famous landmarks.

  • Two smart businesswomen sit side-by-side with both their heads tilted back into two sinks in a City of Londopn hair salon and enjoy the pampering of a shampoo and re-styling. With matching red towels over their shoulders to ensure their clothing is kept dry, the ladies keep their eyes closed and relax as two paiurs of hands from two stylists massage the shampoo into their scalps. We also see the scene reversed, relfected in the mirror, an the echo of everything just mentioned.
