  • We look down on to a sleeping auburn-haired boy sleeps soundly in his buggy during a daytrip to London. After a long day out with his family, the young lad has clearly had enough of the big city and sleeps soundly with his mouth gaping open. A toy dinosaur peaks from a shopping bag and a woman - perhaps his mother - busily texts from a smartphone.

  • Children stare at sleeping homeless man in central London doorway. While walking along the street near Trafalgar Square, the children of about 3 and 5 pause to glance sideways at the sleeping man with his hand outstretched, asking for loose change. This may be a shocking thing for the kids to see or possibly mildly interesting as they see many strange phenomena in Britain's capital. The latest annual figures show that 6,437 people were seen rough sleeping in London in 2012-13, compared with 5,768 the previous year, a 13% rise year on year and an increase of 62% since 2010-11.

  • As a sleeping homeless man lies curled up in his sleeping bag on a central London pavement, two window cleaners have carefully placed their ladders at his feet to clean a Boots the chemist sign. Each wearing identical blue working overalls and each wiping the frontage with their left hands, the men are symbolic of the working man versus that of a homeless person without a job, prospects or perhaps a future. The wide gap between hopelessness and the pride of one's achievement is shown here on the sidewalk of modern-day Britain. London is home to some 50,000 homeless people whose place of rest can often be recesses and shop doorways where they seek sanctuary from the cold and street violence. On the opposite end of the wealth and social divides are those who seek work with a positive outlook on life.

  • With dozens of deck chairs behind him, a sleeping middle-aged man lies bare-chested with a flat cap on his head and with his socks on as all Englishmen tend to do during a summer heat wave. He has chosen a spot in a near-empty Hyde Park in central London - an oasis of calm amid a bustling city – where a seat in a striped deck chair can be rented for a few Pounds for the day and one can snooze topless without being bothered and one’s stresses of daily life can be momentarily forgotten. With one hand resting on his leg, the other reaches down to hold on to his shoulder bag which is in the shade on the short grass.

  • Late at night in a South London street, two young children remain fast asleep in the back of their parents' car. It is a dark despite pools of light falling from street lighting that throw heavy shadows beneath other vehicles. The silhouettes of large ash trees can be seen against the city skyline. The interior lights in the car are switched on to reveal the sleeping childrens' faces. An older girl has her mouth wide open while her younger brother is seen in profile but both are peacefully unaware that they have arrived home after a long drive fro the countryside to the inner-city. From a personal documentary project entitled "Next of Kin" about the photographer's two children's early years spent in parallel universes. Model released.

  • A two and half year-old girl meets her sleeping baby brother for the first time on his actual birthday. In the maternity ward at Kings College Hospital, Camberwell, London, the child reaches out with the maternal instincts of her gender to touch the fragile infant who is wrapped up in an NHS blanket in a cot that was wheeled directly from the birthing room a few hours beforehand. The baby boy is oblivious to his sister's affection and attention but he is healthy and already thriving before waking up for his first feeds. From a personal documentary project entitled "Next of Kin" about the photographer's two children's early years spent in parallel universes.

  • As bright sunlight shines through the window of an airliner, a sleeping male passenger reclines in his seat on a generic transatlantic flight. Sitting in the window seat of this transatlantic flight, the man has a large tummy protruding over his seat belt as he slumbers with a hand resting on the seat arm. The sun is over the port (left) wing as it continues to fly back towards Europe from the USA.
