• The shape of a red heart seen against a mannequin's dress in New Bond Street, central London. The detail of the mannequin's dress and top are in the background of the out of focus heart, the human organ seen in its proper place on the body. Representing the human soul or humanity itself, it is a scene of fashion, the beating heart and of affection and fondness.

 • Glastonbury Festival 2014.
Fans of Craig Charles DJ funk & Soul, performing on Shangri La's hell stage.
Shangri-La is the after-hours epicentre of Glastonbury Festival, a largely indescribable, ephemeral and interactive world that really comes to life after dark.
Unique among festivals, Shangri-la has a central narrative that pins it all together, it evolves year by year (a bit like Star Wars). All contributors respond to this narrative, and add to it via their installations, venues and performances. When it all comes together on site the audience have a wholly immersive world to become lost in with a myriad of places to explore.
Exploration and discovery is an important aspect of Shangri-la. A maze of covered alleys is riddled with nano-venues, performers and installations, artworks and hidden doors.
In 2014 Shangri-La explored the way we create heavens and hells for ourselves.

 • A young, vulnerable-looking youth stands close to two members of a local Evangelical church who are using a carpet warehouse as a temporary Ministry. Rolls of carpets and rugs are behind these Christians as the two officials practice the 'laying on of hands' to cleanse the soul of their young convert during a religious meeting in Newport, Wales. As the ceremony takes place when this boy is persuaded to accept Jesus into his life, two retail signs proclaim the prices and credit terms of the household items. The laying on of hands is a religious practice found throughout the world in varying forms. In Christian churches, this practice is used as both a symbolic and formal method of invoking the Holy Spirit during baptisms, healing services, blessings, and ordination of priests, ministers, elders, deacons, and other holy church ceremonies.

 • Church in North Carolina . You can’t drive through the southern states, 'Bible Belt' of America without passing lots of churches. This really is a God fearing part of the world with religion everywhere: in the gospel music, sermons on the radio and lots of vast signs on the road advertising directly for your soul. Pictured here is a is sign opposite a typical wooden built chapel. Other signs near by read: “The Church is a rest home for sinners not a hospital for saints” or simply “alcohol is a sin”.

 • A typical steamy night gets under way in a downtown Beal street Bar in Memphis. Today There is still some great music to be found here but, like its famous sister Nashville, one has to navigate some typical US commercialism in the search as the town cashes in on its reputation. Most of the residents of this bar seem to be tourists but the music is outstanding and and the tips jar is simply a reflection of the harsh realties for many musicians in these crowded music towns.
