  • The face of the Conservative candidate in Britain's general election Charlotte Vere has been defaced by the childish scrawls over her eyes and mouth. In this residential street of the Brighton Pavillion constituency, we see the one sign that urges voters to support the Tories, spoiled and another in the background untouched by the political jokers. Vere is a Tory business woman fighting this parliamentary seat in East Sussex under the leadership of party leader David Cameron.

  • On a bright summer afternoon, a young spoiled girl shows-off by riding her favourite motorized Barbie trike along The Parade, the main promenade in the north Welsh seaside town of Llandudno, Wales. Wearing a bright pink helmet and travelling on the matching pink toy bike, she trundles along with the low-tide coast over her left shoulder. Barbie is a best-selling fashion doll launched in 1959 and produced by Mattel, Inc. The brand's merchandising reaches far and wide to countries and cultures around the world and this little girl seems to be the happiest on the beach, enjoying a generous present perhaps from a parent. She is the exact age that Mattel are targeting when they market these toys to accompany their dolls and accessories though the industry has come under fire for its controversial stereotyping of gender and subtle sexuality.

  • In a grass-covered car park, two ladies sit on garden chairs adorned with white table cloth. One pours champagne into a glass flute while her girlfriend reaches down to her beloved pet spaniel dog that eagerly licks at a fresh strawberry. The ladies are attending an international polo match between Great Britain and the USA in Windsor Great Park, near Windsor Castle, one of the Queen's official residences. There is a wicker picnic hamper on the grass too, probably containing the couples' lunch. The day is overcast, with threatening clouds behind the party but despite this, they are in a bubbly and excitable mood. Polo at Windsor is held annually and is one of the main dates on the sporting calendar and social season.

  • The ancient Parthenon (circa 400 BC, the largest Doric temple ever built) sits on Acropolis hill surrounded by global tourists and scaffolding. Here the modern world's philosophy was born, once the centre of classical Greek culture which the world has inherited for its laws and forward-thinking. Mounted above the Athenian city within fortified 60m high walls, its history is a World Heritage Site, important because of its “universal symbols of the classical spirit and civilization and form the greatest architectural and artistic complex." The establishment of democracy, took a leading position amongst the other city-states of the ancient world.

  • A map detail of the London underground (subway) network has been sprayed by an unknown graffiti tagger, whose swirling aerosol spray has indelibly marked the illustration of tube lines and stations in England's capital. We see the poster title Journey Planner and the shadow of the tube station wooden roof overhang and three styles of graffiti by three perpetrators. Graffiti vandalism costs the British taxpayer £100 million Pounds a year, £6 million alone is spent by transport companies whose cleaning squads remove offending material.

  • Next to a beach bather, water pours from an outlet pipe on a tourist beach on Coloane island Cheoc Van beach, Macau, China. With his face towards the course sand, the bather lies with his head towards a large wall, whose large stone blocks accommodate the pipe at the bottom. Apart from a pair of brief swimming trunks and a sun hat, he lies with ankles crossed, as if in paradise. But this seemingly industrial landscape is far from the idyllic place other tourists might wish to frequent. We do not know how filthy or indeed how pure, this water that pours out from the ground is, but the suspicion is that the pollution may affect human health. The once-Portuguese colony of Macau is now administered by China as a Special Economic Region (SER) and the official languages are Portuguese and Chinese.

The generation gap is shown here with the older people unconscious after a day in sea air while the lad with the energy of youth puts much effort into shovelling sand from the growing hole. If they are related, they are oblivious as to the dangers of excavating holes on tidal beaches.

  • In the heart of the City of London, a caterpillar tracked crane tears down the walls of an old 70s office block close to St Paul's Cathedral, England. As a pedestrian walks past the blue hoardings that protect passers-by like him, the rubble is piled high before being removed as spoil to make way for an brand new construction that appears in an artist's impression picture on the right, above two site engineers wearing fluorescent jackets and hard hats. This is a scene of renewal in London's financial district. Of optimism and regeneration as businesses invest in new workplaces and replacing the tired, old offices that cannot accommodate new computer and server cabling technology.

  • With a setting sun reflected as a starburst of light in a street lamp, we see the yellow-painted plaster wall of a building on the corner of Florence's Piazza Santa Croce, Florence. A pigeon is caught flying at speed past the viewer and graffiti spoils this otherwise idyllic landscape in the renaissance city. Properties that line the piazza are already in deep shadow but there are still many visitors standing around on the stones to admire the Santa Croce church that is located to the left of this street.
