  • Girls visit a Renaissance art exhibition at London's British Museum. Above them and between pillars is a giant poster called Head of a Woman (1470s) by Andrea del Verrocchio born Andrea di Michele di Francesco de' Cioni, an Italian sculptor, goldsmith and painter who worked at the court of Lorenzo de' Medici in Florence. His pupils included Leonardo da Vinci, Pietro Perugino and Lorenzo di Credi, but he also influenced Michelangelo. The British Museum's collection of Italian Renaissance drawings is so fragile that its masterpieces are exhibited only once in a generation. About half of the works came from Florence in partnership with the Uffizi and sponsored by BP (British Petroleum). The 100 or so works span the period 1400-1510 by artists including Jacopo and Gentile Bellini, Botticelli, Filippo Lippi, Mantegna, Michelangelo and Raphael.

  • A man on the street reads about a portrait by Francesco Goya, sponsored by Credit Suisse and advertised on a construction hoarding outside the National Portrait Gallery. The portrait is of Bartolomé Sureda y Miserol and is owned by the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC. Standing awkwardly to echo the leaning stance of Goya's subject, the man reads the caption and other details of the artistic work, appreciating its beauty and informative descriptions. Paintings by the Spanish romantic court artist are being exhibited inside the National Gallery next door and while a large grey hoarding is in place during works in Trafalgar Square, some of Goya's work is reproduced to viewers outside.

  • A street artist works on his pavement piece in front of Goya portraits, sponsored by Credit Suisse and advertised on a construction hoarding outside the National Portrait Gallery. Creating his version of a Salvador Dali face on the ground, the artist chalks and smooths the features of the famous Spanish surrealist. <br />
Salvador Dalí was a prominent Spanish surrealist painter born in Figueres, Catalonia, Spain. He was a skilled draftsman, best known for the striking and bizarre images in his surrealist work. Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes 1746 – 1828 was a Spanish romantic painter and printmaker regarded both as the last of the Old Masters and the first of the moderns. In a scene of contemporary street art and that of high culture, we see a man trying to make a living outside versus a man who once did the same in another era.

  • Visitors ponder the installation of artist Fiona Banner's fighter jet art work 'Harrier and Jaguar' which is exhibited in the north Duveens gallery at Tate Britain, London. This Sepecat Jaguar aircraft was once in service with the Royal Air Force (RAF). It's serial number was XZ118 and its first was in 1976 and its last in 2006. Its insertion into the gallery was by dismantling the fuselage and re-assembling in situ. Its nose points a few inches from the ground and we see it's now empty cockpit. Banner's art is concerned with flying machines of war that flow low over her as a child in Wales. They may be machines of war but also have the personalities of hanging or submissive birds or beasts, nudes or totems, provoking the idea of body and machine in intimate confrontation. The show runs 28 June 2010 – 3 January 2011.

  • We look down on the zigzag of passenger jetties that transport air travellers from their aircraft, towards the arrivals concourse in Heathrow Airport's Terminal 5. A series of walkways that are covered from above but which have window light to the side are connected to the fuselage of a British Airways 747-400 series airliner that is parked at its gate on the apron of this aviation hub. These jetties are owned by the airport operator, used by British Airways and sponsored by HSBC. Air travellers walk briskly after their long-haul flight either carrying light carry-on bags or towing small cases on wheels. At a cost of £4.3 billion, Terminal 5 has the capacity to serve around 30 million passengers a year. From writer Alain de Botton's book project "A Week at the Airport: A Heathrow Diary" (2009).

  • Former British Prime Minister Edward Heath greets the Chinese Panda Ming Ming at London Zoo, on loan from the Chinese government as part of a breeding programme, on 22nd October 1991, in London, England. Edward Heath met with Premier Li Peng and agreed to loan a female panda to London Zoo for an international breeding project. But London Zoo’s male panda Chia Chia unfortunately died in the week before her arrival and the other male, Bao Bao, and Ming Ming didn’t get on and on the first day that both pandas were in the same enclosure, it all went wrong when the play-fight that normally precedes the mating process with pandas turned nasty and Ming Ming was badly injured. She lost part of an ear, had two infections and needed surgery and antibiotics. The risks were too great to put them together again and they performed artificial insemination on Ming Ming in 1992 and 1993 but it didn’t work. Ming Ming, the world’s oldest panda died on the morning of May 7, 2011 at the age of approximately 34.
