The bikers have struggled up this incline near the Blue John Cavern, a well-known location where visitors can descend into the cave system, one of many in this limestone and gritstone region of central England. The white lines of the highway have split as the tarmac drops away downhill. It's surface has been undermined as if seismic activity has occurred, an earthquake destroying this route high up in the mountains. But this is area is actually stable geologically and the slippage is probably caused by bad foundations and by recent heavy rain.
