  • A teenager's messy bedroom with clothes, books and possessions abandoned across the floor. Abandoned items and personal effects lie strewn across the carpet in this attic room of an Edwardian house. The teenager is out but her mess remains as a statement for untidyness and disorganisation, a chaotic and unhygienic lifestyle.

  • Charity shop donations strewn in the gutter outside a local thrifty shop in south London. Among autumn leaves are someone's old possessions strewn across the gutter outside the thrift shop in East Dulwich in south London. Childrens's toys and a young person's treasured items seen opposite a green bin where Shoes and Textiles can be deposited. But a common problem is that charity donors leave unwanted things outside in the street, for others to come and rifle through, leaving a mess that's difficult for volunteers to clean up.

  • Londoners walk past the mess of litter and rubbish torn apart by overnight animals on a south London street in the borough of Lambeth. The garbage has been thrown under a sapling on this dirty pavement, outside a betting shop run by Betfred. • A makeshift warning sign made from plywood is roughly painted with letters declaring 'oil on beach.' It hangs on some silver railings on an unknown beach in England. The sand is strewn with sharp stones and litter and coloured (colored) a dirty brown stain high up on the shore line and more worrying, a little more distant, a father cuddles his baby child on a towel surrounded by possessions such as a cool box and the seaside toys of a happy family holiday (vacation). We look down on to this scene in disbelief that a parent lies down on such polluted terrain when health and safety considerations might have closed the entire esplanade.

  • As her younger brother makes mischief in the background, 4 year-old girl looks at her appearance in front of a large mirror in her own bedroom at home in south London. In her own private play world, the girl uses a soft brush and looks at herself in the large mirror and she stands on her bed strewn with a girl's fluffy toy characters including a 'Raggedy Ann' and a rabbit. In the background is a naughty little brother who has been searching for something in his sister's cupboard.

  • With al fresco customers sitting at cafe tables on the street a driver checks the delivery of toilet rolls and piles them up on the pavement, having taken them out from the back of his van in Soho, central London. Checking the customer's order, the driver stands with his piles of items driven into the capital from a warehouse somewhere. More boxes are piled high and strewn around the vehicle as the transported goods make their way to various locations around the capital. It seems to be an inappropriate place to offload, given the customers' proximity to the toilet rolls.

The four females are in bathing costumes and one is topless with their possessions strewn about the sand. It is a hot afternoon in the sand dunes and the girls are in an otherwise secluded, windless spot. They remain unaware they are being watched by a pre-pubescent voyeur.

  • As if about to be crunched underfoot, shattered glass from the windows of offices in the historic City of London side-street, stickers and notices for Access (Mastercard) and American Express (Amex) credit cards lie on the disaster-strewn pavement (sidewalk). This is some of the debris lying about after the huge Bishopsgate bomb on 24th April 1993, London's most expensive terrorist atrocity during the Provisional Irish Republican Army's (IRA) sustained bombings on the British mainland. Buildings up to 500 metres away were damaged, with one and a half million square feet (140,000 sq m) of office space being affected and over 500 tonnes of glass broken. Costs of repairing the damage was estimated at £350 million and was possibly the IRA's most successful military tactic since the start of what was called the Troubles from 1969 onwards.

  • A Loyalist wall and rubbish-strewn wasteground shows the dereliction of 1990s Belfast, northern Ireland. Rubbish and missing brickwork tell us of a city a decade after the Troubles when protestant fought catholic causes, a clash of religion and ideology with poor investment by a London-based government.
