  • An inconguous landscape of modern industrial architecture and a foreground of a patchy, poorly-made service road at Northfleet, near Gravesend, Kent England. This is Kimberly Clark's Northfleet Mill which manufactures paper-based products for the hygiene and health market such as tissues and nappies (diapers). The word concrete has been sprayed by aerosol on the ground along with a locating X that marks a confusing and ironic spot for concrete to be found. The high-sided blue walls of the mill factory are smooth and unlike the rough road and to the right the sky is overcast while on the right, it is blue. Kimberly-Clark is a leading global health and hygiene company employing more than 55,000 people worldwide and posting sales of $16.7 billion.

  • A detail of a Victorian house gable in the Essex seaside town of Frinton-on-Sea. Ornate blue painted woodwork looks fresh and clean despite it being 100 years old. The name of the property reads as Essex House and the date of its construction as 1896. A gable is the generally triangular portion of a wall between the edges of a sloping roof. The shape of the gable and how it is detailed depends on the structural system used (which is often related to climate and availability of materials) and aesthetic concerns. Thus the type of roof enclosing the volume dictates the shape of the gable. A gable wall or gable end more commonly refers to the entire wall, including the gable and the wall below it.

  • Circling the base of the Washington Memorial in Washington DC, American flags fly at half-mast in the week after the September 11th attacks on the USA. A young couple lie on the grass beneath this magnificant obelisk that reaches beyond the top of frame into a clear blue sky. A sense of patriotism is running high with the country in a state of national mourning as flags alll over the country are lowered to remember those killed at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon here in the nation's capital and in Pennsylvania. the US sought to express their anger and patriotic unity with gestures at public monuments and in the privacy of the home. The 555 foot (170m) high marble, granite and sandstone Memorial on the National Mall honours George Washington. Completed in 1884, it remains the world's tallest stone structure.

From the top deck of a London bus, we look out through the window and up to see the tall buildings, new to the landscape of London Bridge. The skyscraper landmark known as The Shard in the capital was completed in May 2012. It is the tallest building in the European Union. The 46th-tallest building in the world, standing 310 m (1,017 ft) tall, it is also be the second-tallest free-standing structure in the UK. Several Qatari investors funded the construction of the tower via Islamic finance.

  • A street corner where temporary construction fencing and disruption has blocked off a City of London street. Blue netting in thius industrial fence is similar to the blue skies above the building as it will look in the future. The narrow part of a street called Wallbrook (the route of the ancient River Wallbrook that still flows underground here) is made even narrower due to the disruption in the part of the capital known as the Square Mile, London's financial and oldest heart.

  • The ever-turning London Eye is seen over the River Thames with the Palace of Westminster and Parliament beyond. The wheel is blurred after a minute's exposure and the blue sky behind renders evening as a romantic cityscape backdrop. We see Big Ben in the Tower of Westminster and Parliament just as they have become floodlit and the stand out set against the other buildings, very easily recognised as the iconic London landmarks known around the world. The Eye, or as it was known in 2000, the Millennium Wheel, was designed by architects David Blian, Julia Barfield, Malcolm Cook, Mark Sparrowhawk, Steven Chilton and Nic Bailey, and carries 32 sealed, air-conditioned passenger capsules which rotate at 0.26 metres (0.85 feet) per second (about 0.9 km/h or 0.5 mph) so that one revolution takes about 30 minutes.

  • A lone woman jogger runs past purple construction hoarding and a green taxi drivers' shelter. The runner exercises on a bright afternoon in a side street in Temple Place, close to Waterloo bridge. The garish purple stripe of colour contrasts the green foreground belonging to the Victorian structure. Because cab drivers weren't allowed to leave their vehicles when parked at a stand, it was difficult for them to get a hot meal while at work, so The Earl of Shaftesbury (God bless 'im) and a few philanthropic chums decided to create a cabbie's charity in 1874. Between 1875 and 1914, a total of 61 shelters were built at cost of around £200 each. Because the shelters stood on a public highway, the police stipulated that they weren't allowed to be any larger than a horse and cart.

  • Separated by colour-coded floors, employees of the auditing company Ernst & Young, participate in informal meetings in E & Y's Norman Foster-designed 385,000 square foot E & Y's European headquarter offices at More London, London England. Those on the top blue level 8 may be more senior to those below on the 7th purple storey of this tall, upright scene of modernity. It is busier on the upper floor then the two men beneath. Subsequent levels are vacant. Architecturally, the term atrium comes from Latin: a large and light central hall or reception of a house where guests were greeted. The depth and height of all levels from near the top to almost the bottom give a sense of vertigo, a dizzying perspective on seniority and success as opposed to lower-ranking middle-management.

It is a beauitiful winter afternoon in this inner-city suburban district of Britain's capital, approximately 5 miles south from the River Thames. A couple are walking their dogs past an elegant line of period homes that were completed in 1908, the age of innovative building in the new 20th Century. The properties overlook the borough park named after John Ruskin, the renowned artist and commentator who lived in nearby Herne Hill. It looks an affluent area, a prosperous location to invest in a mortgage in uncertain times with market prices falling during the credit crunch and recession.

It is a bright spring day with a blue city sky and high, thin clouds. We see the colourful orange light bulbs and the overall green hue from sodium illumination and the blue of the evening sky. In the foreground is an example of the ubiquitous palm trees that line the Côte d'Azur. The Hotel Negresco on the Promenade des Anglais on the Baie des Anges in Nice, France was named for Henri Negresco (1868-1920) who had the palatial hotel constructed in 1912. Noted for its doormen dressed in the manner of the staff in 18th-century elite bourgeois households, complete with red-plumed postilion hats, the hotel also offers renowned gourmet dining at Le Chantecler. In 2003 the Hotel Negresco was listed by the government of France as a National Historic Building. Nice is a major tourist centre and a leading resort on the French Riviera. Located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur région, it is a commune and the préfecture (administrative capital) of the Alpes-Maritimes département.
