The British Academy was proposed in 1899 for the promotion of Historical, Philosophical and Philological studies library is now used for study and research and even for licensed marriage ceremonies. It moved to 10-12 Carlton House Terrace in 1998 but the address was built during the late 1820s and early 1830s on land previously occupied by Carlton House, the residence of the Prince Regent, who became George IV. The neoclassical terrace was conceived by architect John Nash.

The English Dialect Dictionary EDD is a dictionary of English dialects compiled by Joseph Wright 1855–1930. The English Dialect Dictionary, being the complete vocabulary of all dialect words still in use, or known to have been in use during the last two hundred years; founded on the publications of the English Dialect Society and on a large amount of material never before printed was published by Oxford University Press in 6 volumes between 1898 and 1905. Its compilation and printing was funded privately by Joseph Wright, a self-taught philologist at the University of Oxford.

The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple is one of the four Inns of Court around the Royal Courts of Justice which may call members to the Bar and so entitle them to practise as barristers. The Temple was occupied in the twelfth century by the Knights Templar, who gave the area its name but was heavily bombed during the Blitz of 1940-1 and the reclining marble memorial to predecessor, John Hiccocks who held the office of Master in Chancery between 1702 and 1723 (d 1726) behind the young law student is marked by the partially-demolished Goldsmiths Chambers on the north side of Temple Church where Hiccocks is buried. The remote and roadless village of Ban Hathin is situated along the Nam Ou river (a tributary of the Mekong) and will be relocated due to the construction of the Nam Ou Cascade Hydropower Project Dam 7. The Nam Ou river connects small riverside villages and provides the rural population with food for fishing. But this river and others like it, that are the lifeline of rural communities and local economies are being blocked, diverted and decimated by dams. The Lao government hopes to transform the country into ‘the battery of Southeast Asia’ by exporting the power to Thailand and Vietnam.

It is the only independent university in the UK with a Royal Charter, and probably the smallest with just around 1000 students. Honours degrees are achieved in two intensive years of study. The University campus is well known for being one of the most attractive locations in the region. The Great Ouse river, home to much wildlife, winds through the heart of our campus.   • The older pupils studying for there KCP exam at Mwakirunge School, Nr Mombassa, Kenya. There are 800 pupils in the school and 17 teachers in 11 classrooms. The Wema centre have provided the school with, scout uniforms, books, sanitary pads and 100 solar lamps to help improve schoolwork. Wema is an NGO organisation supporting vulnerable children.

Time is limited on the computers, allowing everyone to use them and children’s use is monitored, and they are unable to access unsuitable sites. Having Internet access enables people to do research in varies fields, study, and keep up to date on current affairs. Residents can learn ICT and be educated in other skills, such as, secretarial work and programming

  • Buddhist monk studying at Longhua Temple in the south of Shanghai, China. This is a working temple where public come to burn incense, offer gifts and to eat. Located on Longhua Road, the temple was first built in 242 AD, during the period of the Three Kingdoms. Longhua Temple is the oldest temple in Shanghai and also the largest at 20,000 square metres including it’s grounds. Because of several destructions by the wars, most of the buildings in Longhua Temple were reconstructed during the reign of the Emperor Tongzhi and Guangxu during the Qing Dynasty.

With literature lining a bookcase and paperwork on his office table, the priest exhales from his pipe, blowing blue smoke across the study. It is a quiet moment after a busy morning of Mass and community activities. It is estimated that somewhere between 83% to 88% of France's population are Catholic. The church is organised into 98 dioceses, served by 20,523 priests.

The children’s parents are carpet factory workers, and the children have been supported into education by GoodWeave, a charity that works towards getting children out of factories and into education.  Previously these children would have been left unattended in the factory while their parents worked as their low salary could not cover childcare costs. GoodWeave were recipients of the Stars Foundation’s Impact Award.
