  • An elderly and eccentric couple sit on a park bench in the French Mediterranean resort of Juan-les-Pins near Antibes, with their own pet dog on a lead while watching an Afghan Hound which struts past in a showy manner. The shaggy Afghan's coat resembles the colour of the lady's own pet and the texture of her own coat. It is around mid-day and looks warm but the couple are dressed for deepest winter, oblivious to the warm sunshine. The hairy Afghan strides ceremoniously and with great style, while the small pooch on the peoples' lead looks nervous and uncomfortable. With her beak tucked in warm feathers, she shares the nest with wrappers and bottles, bags and cans tossed from a nearby walkway and perhaps drifted on the water from this urban basin in London's Docklands. The mute swan, which is the white swan most commonly seen in the British Isles, will normally mate at anytime from spring through to summer, with the cygnets being born anytime from May through to July. A swan's nest takes 2-3 weeks and the egg laying process begins with an egg being laid every 12-24 hours. They will all be incubated (ie sat on to start the growth process) at the same time with hatching usually 42 days (6 weeks) later.

The 50kg carcasses have been swimming across the Indian Ocean non-stop since birth and having just been line-caught by freelance boat crews who share profits for only high-quality fish that passes stringent health tests. The tuna has been encased in ice since being landed at sea to keep a low-temperature body core so the workers cut out the prime flesh as quickly as possible before boxing the resulting chunks of steak for export by air to Europe and in particular for customers such as UK's Sainsbury's supermarket. The Sri Lankan butchers are ex-fishermen and widowers, having lost their families during the Tsunami. Using extremely sharp knives, they skillfully remove valuable meat and throw away the rest.

  • Ornate architectural artwork on courtyard walls of Nasrid Palace. Arabesque arches and fine carvings adorn this finely-detailed Moorish architecture. This is the Patio de los Arrayanes (Court of the Myrtles), also called the Patio de la Alberca (Court of the Blessing or Court of the Pond), from the Arabic birka, "pool". There are galleries on the north and south sides; the southern gallery is 7 m (23 ft) high and supported by a marble colonnade. Underneath it, to the right, was the principal entrance, and over it are three windows with arches and miniature pillars. From this court, the walls of the Torre de Comares are seen rising over the roof to the north and reflected in the pond. The Alhambra's Moorish palaces were built for the last Muslim Emirs in Spain and its court, of the Nasrid dynasty.
