  • Sorted letters are grouped in a drawer at Royal Mail's giant warehouse at the DIRFT logistics park in Daventry, Northamptonshire England. Raised from its neighbours is an Air Mail letter addressed to someone called Rodrigues and with stamps if its unknown country. Each letter faces the same direction for ease of viewing in this enormous complex where some of the UK's 82 million items pass through. Royal Mail handles some 82 million posted items a day. They have a statutory duty to provide a delivery service to 27 million addresses in the UK for letters and for parcels weighing up to 20kg. Six days a week they deliver daily to all addresses in the UK and provides a collection service from 115,000 Post Boxes, 16,000 Post Offices, businesses and organizations throughout the UK and distributed through 72 mail centres and 100 distribution centres.

In 1925 the Foreign Office played host to the signing of the Locarno Treaties, aimed at reducing tension in Europe. The ceremony took place in a suite of rooms that had been designed for banqueting, which subsequently became known as the Locarno Suite. During the Second World War, the Locarno Suites fine furnishings were removed or covered up, and it became home to a foreign office code-breaking department.

The Enigma machine is a piece of hardware invented by a German and used by Britains codebreakers as a way of deciphering German signals traffic during World War Two. It has been claimed that as a result of the information gained through this device, hostilities between Germany and the Allied forces were curtailed by two years. An estimated 100,000 Enigma machines were constructed.

Long before the actual election took place, models of both Obama and political opponent, John McCain were researched from thousands of photographs and 500 body measurements and prepared from clay, taking 20 dedicated sculptors 4 months to prepare. On the eventual victor was completed using wax and real organic hair. Only Obama’s inauguration day, US citizens were allowed free entry to the museum which is now Britain’s most visited tourist attraction.

  • Standing with a mother and child and in a recreation of the Oval Office, the waxwork figure of the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama stands in London’s Madame Tussauds waxwork museum on the day of his inauguration. Long before the actual election took place, models of both Obama and political opponent, John McCain were researched from thousands of photographs and 500 body measurements and prepared from clay, taking 20 dedicated sculptors 4 months to prepare. Only the eventual victor was completed using wax and real organic hair. On Obama’s inauguration day, US citizens were allowed free entry to the museum which is now Britain’s most visited tourist attraction.

Currencies from the Eurozone and the USA, to Canada and Egypt, are displayed in the window of a post office in south London where customers are able to buy their foreign holiday money. The rates are there too for buying and selling notes and coins from countries abroad. The glass has been smashed, its cracks spreading out from the central point of impact, a metaphor for the cracks in the global economy.

  • Royal Air Force officers formally await visiting foreign dignitaries at the BAE Systems stand during the bi-annual aerospace industry expo at the Farnborough airshow in southern England. As an important trading partner, both the RAF and BAE Systems present a united front in the marketplace, each helping the other to promote the UK-PLC  brand and urging foreign governments to buy British. In the background is a BAE Systems Hawk attack and trainer jet aircraft used by the RAF and airforces in gthe middle-east. Operators of the Hawk include the Royal Air Force (notably the Red Arrows display team) as well a considerable number of foreign military operators. The Hawk is still in production in the UK and under licence in India by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) with over 900 Hawks sold to 18 operators around the world.

  • Police officers gather under the London Eye, locked-down after four people were killed including the attacker and 20 injured during a terrorist attack on Westminster Bridge and outside the Houses of Parliament, on 22nd March 2017, in central London, England. Parliament was in session and all MPs and staff and visitors were in lock-down while outside, the public and traffic were kept away from the area of Westminster Bridge and parliament Square, the scenes of the attack. It is believed a lone man crashed his car into pedestrians then, armed with a knife tried to enter Parliament, stabbing and killing a police officer at parliaments main gates.

Downview is located on the outskirts of Banstead in Surrey, England. The prison is operated by Her Majesty's Prison Service. Downview Prison holds adult Sentenced Female prisoners and convicted and remanded female juveniles. The prison holds approximately 50% foreign nationals. Downview is divided into 4 Wings, A,B,C,D (D wing is a resettlement Wing), and the Juvenile Unit. All wings have single cell accommodation with in-cell electricity. The prison offers vocational training courses and NVQs for inmates. The resettlement wing provides opportunities for inmates to work and receive education outside the prison.
