  • Moving fast past a farmhouse building on a busy UK A road, unseen traffic leaves its light trails on an otherwise dark winter night near the giant DIRFT warehouse logistics park in Daventry, Northamptonshire England. Some rooms are lit in this remote residence which show signs of occupation. Red tail lights from cars, lorries and trucks streak by with tall traces of container traffic leaves light on the picture, diagonally leaving their mark. It is a very busy highway on which to own a home but this infrastructure is a vital route that keeps Britain's logistics moving across the country 24/7.

  • Drivers pass through Low-traffic neighbourhood barriers put in place in Kings Heath on 16th November 2020 in Birmingham, United Kingdom. These traffic restrictions, many of which have been rushed through by local councils during the Coronavirus pandemic have created controversy in local communities, many of whom object the road closures which affect some businesses and roads adversely. The green measures, which have been named 'places for people' by Birmingham City Council are designed reduce traffic and to promote walking and cycling have been criticised for being environmentally unsound, and forcing traffic onto previously quiet roads.

  • A former traffic control kiosk from the cold war era and the modern German city, at the junction of Augsburgerstrasse and Kurfurstendamm in Berlin Mitte. The scene of a traffic controller sitting in the booth, possibly in the 1950s, seems incongruous compared to the modernity of today's city in the background. The word Verkehrskanzel is written at the top, explaining its original purpose as a traffic pulpit at traffic lights, used for manual traffic control by traffic police. Technical improvements to traffic control and congestion information, these kiosks were mostly dismantled in the late 1960s.

  • Looking upwards through a gap in some trees, we see in the background the huge skyscraper office tower of the Commerzbank (Europe's tallest building (1997–2005), designed by Sir Norman Foster) and other institutions in the financial district of Frankfurt, Germany. In the foreground is a set of traffic lights with a traffic lane arrow direction sign and during the long time-exposure the red, amber and green lights have registered on the film to say stop, ready, go. There is a light mist settling on the cityscape which can be seen around the intense of the street lighting giving the scene a futuristic atmosphere like the Blade Runner movie. Apart from the prime colours (colors) emitted by the traffic lights, the image has an otherwise green hue including the tree foliage which is illuminated by the artificial lamps. The leaves are also blurring because of a faint breeze which registers during a long time-exposure.

  • Arrows on a one way street point in the same direction on 21st January 2020 in London, England, United Kingdom. A one-way street is a street either facilitating only one-way traffic, or designed to direct vehicles to move in one direction. One-way streets typically result in higher traffic flow as drivers may avoid encountering oncoming traffic.

  • Near the junction of the 400 to Buckhead, the 401 highway divides and splits during afternoon rush-hour traffic which slows and builds up so that vehicles and cars back-up as they head home and out of Downtown Atlanta, Georgia. The inner median is coned off during some construction work which slows the traffic even more. Crossing the 5-lane road comes a train of Atlanta's own mass-transit system, the MARTA network and it approaches the overpass with care. We see the infrastructure of a modern metropolis at the busiest time of day when the exodus to get home puts the roads and feeder lanes under the most pressure. Fortunately, the weather is fine with good visibility making drivers' journeys a little shorter and more tolerable but it shows too America’s habit and dependency on car culture.

  • In the morning rush-hour, a busy road junction is seen during a snow-shower as traffic builds up at traffic lights and pedestrians to and fro in Dulwich Village, Southwark, South London. Snowflakes can be picked out in car headlights as a lollypop man in fluorescent yellow holds his stop sign to waiting cars, eager to get on with their journeys across the capital during bad weather at the start of 2010, A Mini still has a thick layer of snow on its roof and bonnet (hood) and a number 37 bus to Putney Heath has passengers on its top deck, steamed up in the chilly temperature outside and the warm moisture inside. On the far right is a grey GATSO traffic camera that flashes those who jump red lights. For those struggling to reach work or school, this is another challenging commuting morning.

  • In a narrow street in Florence, a parking attendant stops to check the windscreen (windshield) of a Fiat 500 car. Squeezed into a space that only a car of this length can occupy, the lady warden bends to inspect the owner's city permit. Traffic police in Florence issue approximately 90 tickets every minute, 1,253 tickets a day so a motorist in Florence receives a traffic violation every 40 seconds, according to official figures. Ticket fines average about 140 euro per motorist bringing about 52 million to city hall each year, making it one of Italy's most heaviest fined cities. Officials note that the money entering the municipal budget through traffic fines has tripled in the last 10 years. The Fiat 500 (Cinquecento) designed by Dante Giacosa was produced by Fiat between 1957 and 1975.

  • A leaning traffic light pole and covered others in a City of London street. Damaged perhaps by a vehicle that has crashed into the post and making it stand at an odd angle, it contradicts the stance of the man at the front, about to cross the road. The location is in the City of London, the heart of the capital's financial district and where roadworks have disabled the traffic lights covered with orange covers so pedestrians need to take care when crossing the street.

  • During Rome's chaotic rush hour, we see a fleet of scooters being ridden towards the viewer. Apparently chased by other commuters' cards at this busy road juntion, the traffic comes towards us as it passes over the yellow stripes of a pedestrian crossing who are probably huddled on the pavement awaiting a halt in the traffic flow. In the foreground is a young man without a helmet whose hands grip the handlebars and whose face looks at us as he rides hard ahead of his contemporaries, also on two-wheeled vehicles.
