  • A 5 year-old boy has his bike journey to nursery school disrupted by a vandalised car that lies on the side of a quiet path in Dulwich, south London. Perhaps stolen and certainly attacked then left on the side of this pedestrian thoroughfare where graffiti has been sprayed on the pavement and fences that back on to nearby homes. The alleyway is used by cyclists and commuters taking a quiet route into central London from this leafy suburb.

  • A 12 year-old boy walks along a frozen rural road with his pet dog following alongside during wintry conditions in North Somerset. The viewer also follows on as the lad walks towards his home on a hill, set near the bare mid-winter trees during a particularly nasty period of the Christmas holiday period. The boy's house is in the distance with wood smoke curling from two chimneys. The smoke wafts across the remote road in the Mendip Hills, recently cleared of snow but still deceptively icy. The low sun is slightly obscured by bare branches and offers little warmth to this bleak landscape.

  • A memorial has been placed where ‘Sarah’ died near the A29 in Pulborough, Sussex, England, UK. Were we to ignore this place where someone's life ended, the victim would just be a statistic but flowers are left to there too with touching poems and dedications written by family and loved-ones. One reads: “A little Angel lent, not given/to be born on earth/and grow in Heaven/We have lost a Princess, but gained an Angel/To take you so soon is tragic we know/but when Jesus calls, you just have to go." From a project about makeshift shrines: “Britons have long installed memorials in the landscape: Statues and monuments to war heroes, Princesses and the socially privileged. We lay wreaths to the ordinary who die suddenly - folk killed as pedestrians, as drivers or by alcohol, all celebrated on roadsides and cities with simple, haunting roadside remembrances.

  • Seen from a low angle at the side of the track, near where grass and daisies grow, a speeding Eurostar TGV train hurtles towards the viewer, blurring as it comes towards us. This is the Kent countryside, otherwise known as the fertile Garden of England, and the route for high-speed trains that ply back and forth between western Europe and London St Pancras. This international passenger service was made possible by the completion of the Channel Tunnel in 1994 operating eighteen-carriage Class 373 trains which run at up to 300 kilometres per hour (186 mph) on a network of high-speed lines. Eurostar is operated by the national railway companies of France and Belguim, SNCF and SNCB, and by Eurostar (UK) Ltd (EUKL), a subsidiary of London and Continental Railways (LCR) which in turn also owns the high-speed infrastructure and stations on the British side.

  • Long boarder youth sleeps between downhill contests in Tregaron, Wales. During the lunchtime rest of races, on the top of a hillside of slate rock in this quiet mid-Wales hilltop. The young man with beard has pulled down the hood over his face to shield his eyes and so to aid his brief sleep. With fingers interlocked and on a softer patch at the side of the road/track, the man enjoys a moment of peace and tranquility.
