  • Commuters to-and-fro in the heat of a city summer during a 3-day underground tube strike in September 2007. This is Victoria mainline station during a summer heatwave. It's a transport hub for tube lines, buses and overground train routes and we see masses of pedestrians and buses reflected in the glass of a bush shelter window. As a result of the industrial action, the buses are full so the quickest way of reaching one's destination is to walk. An official points out directions, someone shields his eyes from the sun, a lady walks with her hands in pockets, the 239 bus to Victoria approaches and sightseeing tours sign advertises tickets. People are seen in differing scales and sizes.

  • Two women walk past the Charles Tyrwhitt menswear outfitters in Eldon Street in the City of London, the capital's heart of its financial district and a good location for suits and businesswear. A pair of Englishmen raise their bowler hats in a gesture from a previous era, when hats said much of your social standing, a summary of your position in the class system. In the 21st century though, the hat is largely an item of clothing to wear only for extreme cold or heat. A leggy girl strides past the shop frontage, seemingly curious of this bygone gentlemanly tradition.

  • A young female student of Asian descent signs a petitiion during protests against government education cuts in Trafalgar Square. Writing her name on the list of supporters, the girl holds two placards denouncing coalition Prime Minister David Cameron, telling him to "stuff your cuts, we won't pay" relating to his policy for extra higher education fees. As tourists photograph London's famous square known for its political rallies, the woman is learning to become politically-aware. Tens of thousands of students and school pupils walked out of class, marched, and occupied buildings around the country in the second day of mass action within a fortnight to protest at education cuts and higher tuition fees. There were isolated incidents of violence and skirmishes with police, mostly in central London among the 130,000 students.

The party was founded in 1921 but made illegal after a coup in the late 1920s. The PCP played a major role in the opposition to the dictatorial regime of António de Oliveira Salazar. • Workers Party / PT rally in central Sao Paulo, Fernando Haddad is the presidential candidate for the PT, taking the place of Lula who is facing charges for corruption during his previous presidency. There have been less political rallies in the 2018 election run in Brazil, this is in part because of a change in funding legislation for the political parties, meaning less money is available for campaigning.
