  • Long boarder youth sleeps between downhill contests in Tregaron, Wales. During the lunchtime rest of races, on the top of a hillside of slate rock in this quiet mid-Wales hilltop. The young man with beard has pulled down the hood over his face to shield his eyes and so to aid his brief sleep. With fingers interlocked and on a softer patch at the side of the road/track, the man enjoys a moment of peace and tranquility.

The bear is the brain child of Greenpeace UK and it will be the center piece in the Greenpeace campaign Save the Arctic  global day of action in London Sept 15th. Aurora is designed by Christopher Kelly in collaboration with props designer Simon Costin and made by Factory Settings in East London.

  • Part of the bear was listings of the more than 3 million people who have signed up to Greenpeace's Save the Arctic campaign.  The giant polar bear puppet Aurora made by Greenpeace walked the streets of London in defence of the Arctic as part of a Greenpeace global day of action. The parade,part performance part protest, was to highlight the melting ice caps and the increasing and potentially devastating oil drilling in the arctic sea. Shell is one of the companies drilling and the march through London ended up outside Shell London HQ to draw attention to their oil business in the arctic. Aurora, the biggest polar bear in the world represents all endangered species in arctic.
