  • Decorator and part-time chimney sweep Alan Squires prepares to apply another coat of emulsion paint to the exterior walls of a cottage called Burnside in the tiny hamlet of Hallin, Waternish, on the Isle of Skye, Scottish Highlands. With his shadow looming large on the newly-painted off-white pebbledash that is rendered a warm orange in the low sunlight, Alan walks with his long roller after a day's decorating in this beautiful place near Dunvegan. Alan is an Englishman who came to Skye in 1987 for the community spirit. "everybody knows everybody' he says though admits that southerners come from the south in search of an idyllic lifestyle but harsh winters often send them back to warmer climates. Alain's fresh paint therefore needs to dry before winter weather blows in from the Atlantic. Image taken for the 'UK at Home' book project published 2008.

  • Kids fairground, Butlins Holiday camp, Skegness. Butlins Skegness is a holiday camp located in Ingoldmells near Skegness in Lincolnshire. Sir William Butlin conceived of its creation based on his experiences at a Canadian summer camp in his youth and by observation of the actions of other holiday accommodation providers, both in seaside resort lodging houses and in earlier smaller holiday campsThe camp began opened in 1936, when it quickly proved to be a success with a need for expansion. The camp included dining and recreation facilities, such as dance halls and sports fields. Over the past 75 years the camp has seen continuous use and development, in the mid-1980s and again in the late 1990s being subject to substantial investment and redevelopment. In the late 1990s the site was re-branded as a holiday resort, and remains open today as one of three remaining Butlins resorts.

  • Man on skates glides past a stylish clothing shop for business people on a poster in the City of London. Skating past the images of very good-looking and stylish men wearing sharp suits - the latest in 2015 city fashion - the youth looks out of place from an otherwise white and elite class of young people. The street is in the City of London, the capital's financial heart.

  • Street art by Saki and Bitches of cat women in the Brick lane area of Shoreditch, East London, United Kingdom. Street art in the East End of London is an ever changing visual enigma, as the artworks constantly change, as councils clean some walls or new works go up in place of others. While some consider this vandalism or graffiti, these artworks are very popular among local people and visitors alike, as a sense of poignancy remains in the work, many of which have subtle messages.

  • An athletic man poses against a wall on Ocean Drive in Miami Beach, Florida. This fine specimen of a man wears roller-blades and trousers tucked into his skates with a yellow t-shirt with the word Frequency across his pectoral muscles. His shdow appears across the wall and because of the angle, his shape has been greatly exaggerated, his body becoming a much wider, stockier proportion than the reality. He stands with an arm resting high on the wall and the other on his hip, almost in a feminine manner. He is nonetheless the epitome of maleness, of virility with the healthy physique that women adore and other men are jealous of! The sdidewalk pavement arcs around a corner and the wall with its long shadow is a strong diagonal line across the picture, disappearing to the far right.

  • Seen through the window of an amusement arcade in London's Gerrard Street, Chinatown, we see the colourful neon lights that garishly shine from behind the glass. Beyond is the hustle and bustle of daily life in this famous street of London's Chinese community. We are slightly confused as to what is inside and what is out. We see the Georgian architecture reflected from behind and to the left is a slot-machine game called Hi-Roller which suggests the use of dice in this gambling activity. Passers-by can be seen outside, making their way past the many restaurants and businesses. In the middle of the scene is a yellow sign positioned by the Metropolitan Police warning against pickpockets as this area of the West End is known for petty crime.

  • Wearing beachwear and topless in shorts are the beautiful people of Los Angeles’ famous Venice Beach. A dashing athletic male specimen, all six-pack muscles, a dark tan with white trainers, socks and leaning on a bike, flirts with a young woman whose perfect body is facing away from us, allowing us a peek at her bottom and long, slender legs and rollerblades. She wears a very small pink bikini and a tiny back-pack in the west coast sunshine. There is sexuality and machismo here between the sexes where exhibitionists and extroverts display their confidence and talents, the guy’s body language showing and facial expression giving off a keen interest in this woman’s female form.
