  • Moving fast past a farmhouse building on a busy UK A road, unseen traffic leaves its light trails on an otherwise dark winter night near the giant DIRFT warehouse logistics park in Daventry, Northamptonshire England. Some rooms are lit in this remote residence which show signs of occupation. Red tail lights from cars, lorries and trucks streak by with tall traces of container traffic leaves light on the picture, diagonally leaving their mark. It is a very busy highway on which to own a home but this infrastructure is a vital route that keeps Britain's logistics moving across the country 24/7.

  • Passengers waiting for a delayed train, Waterloo station, London. Despite being nationalised in 1947 "as one of the ‘commanding heights’ of the economy", British Rail was not profitable for many years. Declining passenger numbers and financial losses in the late 1950s and early 1960s prompted the closure of many branch and main lines, and small stations, under the Beeching Axe. Coming and Going is a project commissioned by the Museum of London for photographer Barry Lewis in 1976 to document the transport system as it is used by passengers and commuters using public transport by trains, tubes and buses in London, UK.

  • Crowded Guilford train heading for Waterloo, 8.00am. Most travellers on this Southern Region train would be middle class season ticket holders.<br />

Coming and Going is a project commissioned by the Museum of London for photographer Barry Lewis in 1976 to document the transport system as it is used by passengers and commuters using public transport by trains, tubes and buses in London, UK.

  • It is late morning and a lady has emerged from her bead and breakfast (B+B) in Paignton, Devon. Sunlight is quite high in the sky and the shadows of a vine that is growing across the roof of the building's terrace, is seen on the wall behind the woman. She is seated reading a magazine in a garden chair and is surrounded by colourful flowers in their prime. Well-painted original victorian railings that act as a sort of ballustrade are in front of the female. In the window is a scene of typical seaside Englishness. Serviettes are splayed out on a table along with breakfast or dinner items awaiting guests at the next meal.

The pillars belong to the Tabernacle, a Christian centre on the busy Elephant roundabout surrounded by 70s and 80s architecture. The regeneration of Elephant is a controversial change to this area of south London where a poor segment of society and more recently a migrant population has traditionally proliferated. With the construction of a new estate called Elephant Park comes a wealthier but less present occupier, more interested in investment than integration.
