  • A conservator with City of London contractor Rupert Harris Conservation, uses a pressure jet spray to hose off  urban grime the statue of Victorian philanthropist, entrepreneur and banker George Peabody (1795 to 1869). As part of a rolling programme of maintenance and cleaning by the Square Mile's governing Corporation, historic items - from statues and plaques to other pieces of historic value are regularly attended to.

  • Workman feed yellow plastic tubing through an under pavement shaft to clear a subterranean blockage, working beneath a round pastry post ad. The works are outside a corner shop (store) in the south London district of Waterloo (celebrating the famous battle victory by Wellington over Napoleon in 1815) and the site is half-covered by a barrier that prevents pedestrians from falling down the opened manhole cover on the pavement (sidewalk). The two men force-feed the plastic piping to free whatever is obstructing the route to another site 50 metres down the street. The visual pun of the coiled cabling and the swirls of the Danish pastries make for a humorous scene.

  • New apartment balconies in recently completed housing in Stratford, a short distance from the 2012 Olympic Park. Developers are building 4m sq ft of offices and 350 homes. Inter Ikea, proposed 1,200 homes and up to 500,000 sq ft of commercial space at a 26-acre site just 500 metres south of the Olympic Park. Houses close to the Olympic Park in Stratford have increased in value by £800 a month meaning average house prices have increased by £60,000, or 30pc. Also, short-term rentals in London in July 2012 is £2,858 per week, an increase of 444pc one year before the Games.

The new building's balconies have fluouerscent green that looks garish in the afternoon sunlight, similar to the high-visibility tabards of nearby constructions workers. Whilst known mainly for large high-profile schemes, Skanska also undertake many smaller projects including public realm improvements, involved in some of the UK’s most prestigious projects in both the Private and Public Sectors.

  • Lift shafts with their floors marked vertically at 5 Broadgate, designed by Make Architects which will become the new home of UBS in London when fully occupied. 700,000 sq feet (66,890 sq m). Rising towards the blue sky is the tower-like structure with blue numbers of future storeys, stencilled on to the grey reinforced concrete. There will be 12 floors to this office complex of 700,000 sq feet (66,890 sq m), scheduled to be completed in 2016. The City of London is the capital's historic centre first occupied by the Romans then expanded during following centuries until today, it has a resident population of under 10,000 but a daily working population of 311,000.

This is in east London, a kilometre south of the 2012 London Olympic Park and stadium site. Purple colour themed balconies look both modern and attractive to poorer residents in this otherwise downtrodden borough of Newham and designed and built by contractor, Ardmore for Genesis Housing Association, 150 High Street, Stratford, 704 homes, in five new residential blocks, one of which, at over 132 metres, will be one of the highest residential towers in London.

  • London contractor workmen close construction site screens, showing a new development at Leicester Square for 2012. Drawing the fencing to a close to prevent non-essential pedestrians from wandering onto the site itself, the men pull the screens together to reveal computer-generated imagery of how this iconic west end landmark will look when the forthcoming Olympics are held in the summer. Leicester Square's revamp will cover over 160 square metres showing past, present and future’ hoardings installed around the redevelopment works in the Square. Designed to showcase the best of the iconic square through time, the new hoardings are part of an £18 million plan by Westminster City Council to revitalise the Leicester Square streetscape.

A blue plastic barrier inexpertly blocks the broken paving stones at a pedestrian crossing in Brockley in south London. And we notice the upside down sign telling the public that the pathway is closed, dangerous to use and evidence of disruption to the inform or users of wheelchairs or childrens' buggies. Comically, the notice is itself, falling down the hole.

  • A Lambeth council contractor repairs park railings by welding uprights. With sparks flaring, fall and bounce off the pavement from his equipment on the ground. The man has been employed by Lambeth council to repair the railings that surround Ruskin Park, a public space in this south London borough. The workman uses Oxy-fuel welding (commonly called oxyacetylene welding, oxy welding, or gas welding in the U.S.) and oxy-fuel cutting are processes that use fuel gases and oxygen to weld and cut metals, respectively.
